Rotorua
More pics..!
whakawharawera maori village (or something like that...)
   at the maori village
   mud pools!
   maori cultural show
haka, poi, & the hangi feast
   the zorbing adventure!
The overview...
Spent a couple of nights in Rotorua after the Tongariro Crossing. First night we made some quality cookies for old times’ sake and I also introduced Derek to Hokey Pokey icecream...New Zealand’s most popular flavour (and mine I reckon). We were true tourists the next day, visiting the Maori village of Wharakawhawera, where we got a tour around the houses, cooking areas, thermal and mud pools and had a nice walk in the gardens. Spent the afternoon wondering down by the lake, and then went to a maori cultural evening at one of the big hotels which was fantastic. There was a hangi (traditional maori feast) put on for us, and traditional dancing and music. I got dragged up on stage to learn poi with a few other ladies from the audience, which was great fun, although I wish I could do it half as well as them! I then managed to volunteer Derek to get called up for the haka which was pretty amusing because he’d never even seen it before! All in all a really fun evening though...
