Whitsundays
We boarded “Ambition” from Abel Point Marina on Friday morning, heading out on a 3-day sailing trip around the Whitsundays...our group was only 7 people + 2 crew members (Mark was our skipper, and Anthony was our dive instructor/cook!...it was a really fun group. We cruised out between Hook & Whitsunday Islands on the first day, stopping for some snorkeling in the afternoon, which was brilliant. The coral was fantastic – beautiful colours, and amazing to see so many fish swimming right by us. I really loved it! We sailed on to Tongue Bay, where we anchored for the night, and Anthony made us a great meal.
Day 2 – Mark took us in to shore on the Dingy, and we walked up to a lookout over Hill Inlet which was superb, then down to Whitehaven Beach – 6km of pure white, silicon sand. It was beautiful. Determined to make it round to the main stretch of beach in the time we had, I ran along the beach, made a few river crossings (and saw some stingray!), and eventually reached the long white stretch...not a single person to be seen! Back on board, we moved on to our dive site, and I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience diving – we had a brief intro on how to use the gear properly, then had half an hour diving amongst the coral and fish, it was fantastic.
Day 3 – Snorkelling before breakfast was a good wake-up call – really calm and beautiful, with such clear water. We paid for a second dive (the first one was free), which was also brilliant – really diverse coral, and some huge multi-coloured fish! Afterwards we sailed back – a bit of sun-bathing and relaxing on deck...and had a fun evening out with the group in Airlie Beach. Really enjoyed the trip, and would totally recommend it to anyone!
