Arthur's Seat & Port Nepean

After a run around Ararat in the morning, we drove back towards Melbourne, and stopped at the Victoria Market in the afternoon. Several wines were purchased, along with cheese, dips, crackers, and other condiments for our own ‘gourmet’ selection! Was really good fun (again!) We visited Linda’s sister in the evening, and then started driving SE around the coast to Port Nepean. We camped near Drombana (no idea where we were until the morning, but it turned out to be a great spot looking along the estuary!)

I’d read about Arthur’s Seat in one of the guidebooks, so obviously visiting there was a must! We took the track up under the chairlift and then did a circuit around the top, which provided excellent views over Melbourne and Port Philip. I miscalculated how far away the Pig ‘n’ Whistle pub was where we arranged to meet (we were both running!), which lead to an extra 6km round trip for both of us, but I’m sure it was good for us! We stopped at the maze (although we didn’t actually do it, the gardens looked lovely!) and then headed back to the car and drove up to the pub & winery (by which time it was actually open!). It was by far the best pub I have ever been in – serving 120 different beers from around the world, and authentically decorated with hundreds of bottles, flags, maps and antiques. The gardens were lovely, and the restaurant area looked great too – really fun to see. We tried two local beers – Pig’s Pale Ale and Pig’s Knackered (!) both of which were really nice! There were a couple of cute wee craft shops as well.

Moving further round we reached Port Nepean, and then had a quality crossword stop at Serranton – a quaint town near the point. There was an amazing antique shop and a great wee book shop too – could have spent ages in both! Driving back up to Melbourne that night we found a spot near the airport because Linda had a really early flight on Sunday morning. It’s been a really fun week!
